I noticed there are no posts anywhere on this forum, so I thought I would put myself in the history books by being the first person ever to contribute! Then I had to think of something relevant to write so I remembered that I'm organising a chamber music workshop in SAMS at the end of term.

General question - any good ideas for chamber music which would be suitable for teenagers playing about grade 6-8 standard but have never played chamber music before? My dilemma is that the Sheila Nelson sort of stuff is a bit beneath them possibly, but apart from some early Mozart and Haydn, the main canon is too tricky, at least until they have already had some experience. I can think of one or two things knocking around in the music school but I could definitely do with a larger repertoire!

If anybody reads this before July 5th, suggestions most welcome!

Just a couple of suggestions to get you thinking... would you like to stay with standard trios and quartets? I wondered whether you should look at the Telemann 4 violin concerti and the Vivaldi l'Estro Armonico concerti (those for 2 and 4 violins)?

A bit new to all this (its Pam by the way) but I think you might like to try the miniature quartet by David Stone. Its really playable, short and creamy-romantic. Think Butterworth. Last movement is more dramatic. I tried it on my Owens 4tet (grades 5 to 7)they enjoyed it and sounded great. Tunes for all 4 instruments. Nice to do the whole thing. I have my own copy if you want to try it.

ESTA has a workshop on kid's chambermusic soon. The site is esatastrings.org.uk. Also, does anyone know anything about the Tasmin Little thing at the Weston Audiotorium in Hatfield,Oct 23rd? It says that she is leading a number of private workshops with school children during the day. Can we bring kids? Would it be useful to us? Shouln't we be involved as it is so local? Any clues?
